AUTOMOTIVE WINDOW FILM

Not 100% sure if window tint is worth the investment? Let’s take a look at some reasons to reconsider.

What is window tint? Car window tinting films are measured in visible light transmission levels (also known as VLT), and these levels are represented as a percentage of the visible light transmitted through the windows. So, when you see a window film being referred to as a percentage, this is the VLT. “Let’s do 35% on the back windows,” means 35% of the visible light will pass through the window film.

In the simplest terms, the lower the percentage, the darker the window film is. A 5% VLT film is very dark and a 50% is significantly lighter.

It adds a new look to your vehicle while reducing fade damage. Being in the Okanagan we’re blessed with strong sun, especially in the summer months. Automotive window film doesn’t completely save your interior but it definitely slows the aging process.

Here’s another reason why window tint will benefit you: Your vehicle is less likely to be broken into. A thief will have a much harder time seeing what could be in your back seats. If they do decide to peer through your windows, it’s quite obvious what they’re up to.

In BC, there are some laws around window tint. Legally you can tint your rear windows with any shade you prefer, but the front driver and passenger sides are currently illegal. There are only a few provinces that allow front windows to be tinted.
